In addition to the kit the various members of the European Union demand we take with us on our journey, such as the mandatory safety and emergency equipment required for all vehicles, I’ve also been stocking up on what I call nonessential essentials - you know, the sort of kit that you hope you won’t need but will be thankful you have in your boot should the worst happen.
What have I picked up for our trip?
Insulated Booster Cables - These comply with the BS AU 237a EU standard. They feature copper-coated 3m cables with fully insulated colour-coded clamps.

Heavy Duty Tow Rope – Yellow strap-style towing belt for use in breakdowns. Suitable for vehicles up to four tonnes.
12V Digital Tyre Inflator - Shows PSI, BAR, KPA, 3-100 PSI and includes adaptors.
Engine Oil - 1 litre of 10W-50 used to top up the system if needed.
Dry Powder Fire Extinguisher - Highly efficient fire extinguisher offering protection against class B & C fires. Safe to use on electrical fires.
Emergency Foil Thermal Blankets - Designed to reflect/retain up to 90% of body heat, they help prevent hypothermia and shock.
Disposable Rain Poncho - Emergency raincoat for adults, lightweight and portable with hood and sleeves
Ice Scraper and De-icer - These are essential for British winters, but they will probably not be used much on our trip.
Holdall Bag - A sturdy Grab Bag to store all the above kit and prevent it from rattling around the boot.
